Durham Staff Profile - Amy Dover

Durham Staff Profile - Amy Dover

Hello, I’m Amy. I have worked at Lebeado in Durham since September. After graduating University in the summer, in Graphic design, I moved back home, to just outside Durham and wanted a part time job in the area. My previous job was assistant manager of a design shop and gallery, so I was keen to work in a creative and independent store again. I really enjoy working in Lebeado, I have learnt a lot of new skills which I also enjoy teaching. I love working at the bead table and helping people make presents; for other people, and themselves. And of course there is lots of lovely jewelry tempting me at work too. I am also a freelance illustrator, artist, and letterpress operator, so when I’m not at Lebeado I am working at home in my studio, www.AmyDover.com, if you want to have a nosey. I have found working at Lebeado has influenced my artwork and vice versa, it is a very inspiring environment and I have found everyone who comes in, can’t wait to come back again.

January Sale!

If you haven’t already made it in yet, move quickly some of our amazing jewellery has been reduced to obscenely low prices in our winter sale!

Christmas

Well Christmas was all a bit of a whirlwind with numerous Fairs (West Jesmond, Westfield and Church High Schools’ to name but a few and manically busy days in both shops (DESPITE the recession, Durham takings were consistently up on last year). The beading tables were like hot seats as per last year with queues to get to our Moroccan table of dreams and people beading in any corner of the shop. We were invited to take the Lebeado experience to the Fisherman’s Lodge Christmas lunches. Thank you to Jocelyn Maxfield who enabled us to spread the L word and we look forward to welcoming more Lebeado virgins into the shops over the coming weeks.

Durham Christmas Festival

Durham Christmas Festival

The “Ample Angels” (Oh dear!) had a wonderful time generating Christmas cheer at the Durham Christmas festival on Palace Green. As usual, it was lovely to get out of Aladdin’s bead cave and meet people who wouldn’t normally venture in.

RGS Fashion Show

RGS Fashion Show

This proved to be a huge success and was incredibly well organised. Rebecca and her team were very impressive, the whole event was incredibly well organised. The Lebeado walk seemed to garner most attention with several wolf-whistles and cheers at the rather stacked, topless male models draped in beads. Well done boys!

Durham Retail Awards

Sadly there is nothing to report yet as we were all plunged into darkness when the generator went down just as they were about to announce the awards. Take 2 is being held at Ramside Hall at the end of January so fingers crossed!

Team Lebeado

The work hard, play harder philosophy instituted by the younger vintage of Lebeado management continues apace. The Durham Christmas party is to be continued, but we thought we would share this from the Jesmond night of mayhem!

Yakanaka Angels

The Yakanaka Christmas Angels made by the Yakanaka ladies in Harare proved to be a huge success. All the proceeds are being split between the Ceders School in Gateshead and the Yakanaka Foundation in Zimbabwe. We have a great deal more charitable events and Fair Trade related events in the pipeline to tie in with Fair Trade Week Fortnight (February 23rd - March 8th) Katie is heading out to Zim at the end of January to meet the Yakanaka ladies, do some filming and interviewing to report back on the various projects profits from the sale of Yakanaka jewellery and beads fund.
